North Sumatra's economy in the first quarter of 2024 grew 4.88 percent (y-on-y)

Abstract

The economy of North Sumatra based on the size of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) for the first quarter of 2024 at current prices reached IDR 273.49 trillion and at constant prices in 2010 it reached IDR 152.82 trillion.

North Sumatra's economy in the first quarter of 2024 contracted by 0.59 percent (q-to-q) compared to the previous quarter. From the production side, the deepest growth contraction occurred in the Health Services and Social Activities Business Field at 5.01 percent. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, the Government Consumption Expenditure Component (PK-P) experienced the deepest growth contraction of 13.62 percent.

North Sumatra's economy in the first quarter of 2024 to the first quarter of 2023 grew by 4.88 percent (y-on-y). In terms of production, the Accommodation and Food and Drink Providing Business Field experienced the highest growth of 11.63 percent. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, the LNPRT Consumption Expenditure Component experienced the highest growth of 17.69 percent.

The economic structure on the island of Sumatra spatially in the first quarter of 2024 is dominated by several provinces including, North Sumatra Province which contributes to the GRDP on the island of Sumatra of 23.68 percent; Riau Province at 22.88 percent; South Sumatra Province at 13.58 percent; Lampung Province was 9.71 percent. Meanwhile, the lowest contribution was Bengkulu Province at 2.14 percent.
