Abstract

· The economy of North Sumatra based on the amount of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices in the second quarter of 2021 reached Rp 212.44 trillion and at constant prices in 2010 reached Rp 136.11 trillion.

· The economy of North Sumatra in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the second quarter of 2020 grew by 4.95 percent (y-on-y). In terms of production, the highest growth was achieved by the Financial Services Business Field of 7.87 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was in the Export Component of Goods and Services which grew by 18.89 percent.

· The economy of North Sumatra in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter grew by 1.83 percent (q-to-q). In terms of production, the highest growth was achieved by the Government Administration, Defense and Mandatory Social Security Business Fields of 8.49 percent. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, the highest growth was in the Government Consumption Expenditure Component (PK-P) of 18.77 percent.

· The economy of North Sumatra in Semester I-2021 compared to semester I-2020 grew by 1.46 percent (c-to-c). In terms of production, the highest growth was in the Information and Communication Business Field of 5.75 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was in the component of Exports of Goods and Services which grew by 13.44 percent.

· The spatial structure of the economy on the island of Sumatra in the second quarter of 2021 was dominated by several provinces including North Sumatra, which contributed the largest to the GRDP on the island of Sumatra by 23.35 percent; followed by Riau Province with 22.53 percent; South Sumatra Province by 13.50 percent; and Lampung Province by 10.45 percent. Meanwhile, the lowest contribution was made by Bengkulu Province at 2.20 percent and Bangka Belitung Islands Province at 2.33 percent.
