In April 2021, all CPI cities in North Sumatra had inflation, namely Sibolga by 0.35 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.05 percent; Medan by 0.04 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 0.61 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 0.59 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in April 2021 inflation of 0.08 percent. In April 2021, Medan recorded inflation of 0.04 percent or an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 104.18 in March 2021 to 104.22
in April 2021. Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices shown, namely the clothing and footwear group. by 0.22 percent; equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group by 0.12 percent; the health group by 0.01 percent; the transportation group of 0.81 percent; the information, communication and financial services group of 0.01 percent; the recreation, sports, and culture group by 0.13 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.02 percent; and personal care and other services group by 0.70 percent. Deflation of 0.34 percent for food, beverages, and tobacco. Two other groups that did not experience changes in the index, namely the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group and the education group.
The main commodities contributing to inflation during April 2021 in Medan include gasoline, red chilies, gold jewelry, cooking oil, beef, squid, and papaya.
Of the 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, 17 cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation was in Padangsidimpuan at 0.61 percent with a CPI of 107.23 and the lowest in Medan at 0.04 percent with a CPI of 104.22. Meanwhile, the highest deflation was in Tanjung Pinang at 0.36 percent with a CPI of 103.95 and the lowest in Tanjung Pandan at 0.02 percent with a CPI of 107.83.
