• In April 2020, four CPI cities in Sumatera Utara were deflation, viz Sibolga by 0.66 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.40 percent; Medan by 0.28 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 0.71 percent, while the inflation rate was 0.04 percent. Therefore, combined 5 CPI cities in Sumatera Utara in April 2020 deflation of 0.29 percent. • In April 2020, Medan recorded deflation of 0.28 percent or occurred a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 102.89 in March 2020 to 102.60 in April 2020. Deflation occurred because of it indicated price reductions, i.e. the food, beverage, and tobacco by 0.80 percent; transportation group of 0.19 percent; and information, communication and financial services groups by 1.82 percent. The group that experienced inflation, namely the group clothing and footwear by 0.07 percent; equipment group, household appliances and routine maintenance by 0.43 percent; health group of 0.61 percent; and care group personal and other services by 0.64 percent. While a group others did not experience changes in the index. • The main contributor to deflation during April 2020 in Medan, among others, red chili, dencis fish, chicken, pulse fees cellphone, cayenne pepper, cooking oil and bottled water. • Out of 24 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, 20 cities recorded deflation. Deflation the highest was in Pangkal Pinang by 0.92 percent with CPI of 102.31 and the lowest in Banda Aceh by 0.08 percent with CPI amounting to 104.28.
