Abstract

  • The export value through loading ports in the North Sumatra region in November 2024 decreased compared to October 2024, namely from US$1,037.39 million to US$957.86 million or decreased by 7.67 percent. When compared to November 2023, North Sumatra's exports increased by 8.37 percent.
  • The group of goods that experienced the largest decrease in November 2024 compared to October 2024 was the animal/vegetable fats & oils group, which decreased by US$85.95 million (-18.95%) followed by the food industry dregs/waste group, which decreased by US$29.29 million (-58.96%). The group of goods that experienced the largest increase in export value was the aluminum group, which increased by US$36.36 million (366.50%) and followed by the organic chemicals group with an increase in value of US$12.56 million (25.58%).
  • Exports to China in November 2024 were the largest at US$157.89 million, followed by the United States at US$119.76 million and Malaysia at US$57.91 million with the contribution of the three reaching 35.01 percent.
  • According to the main export destination countries in November 2024, exports to the Asian region (outside ASEAN) were the largest with a value of US$329.12 million (34.36%).
  • The value of imports through North Sumatra in November 2024 on a CIF (cost, insurance & freight) basis was US$436.89 million or down 16.59 percent compared to October 2024 which was valued at US$523.78 million. When compared to the same month in the previous year, the import value decreased by 21.63 percent.
  • Import value by category of goods usage in November 2024 compared to October 2024, consumer goods increased by 0.36 percent while auxiliary raw materials decreased by 13.47 percent and capital goods decreased by 50.42 percent.
  • In November 2024, the category of goods that experienced the largest decrease in import value was the fertilizer category of US$18.57 million (-52.78%) while the one that experienced the largest increase in import value was organic chemicals with a value of US$2.07 million (15.44%).
  • The November 2024 import value from China was the largest at US$127.93 million with its role reaching 29.28 percent of North Sumatra's total imports, followed by Malaysia at US$49.94 million (11.43%) and Singapore at US$47.28 million (10.82%).
