Abstract

  • The value of exports through loading ports in the Sumatera Utara region in April 2024 decreased compared to March 2024, namely from US$861.14 million to US$697.13 million or a decrease of 19.05 percent. When compared with April 2023, Sumatera Utara's exports decreased by 0.13 percent.
  • The category of goods that experienced the largest decline in export value in April 2024 compared to March 2024 was the animal/vegetable fats & oils group, which fell by US$ 41.74 million (-13.97%), followed by the coffee, tea and spices group, which fell amounting to US$22.55 million (-36.01%) and the food industry waste/waste category decreased by US$22.11 million (-35.07%). There was no category of goods that experienced an increase in export value among the 10 main categories of goods.
  • Exports to the United States in April 2024 were the largest, namely US$97.56 million, followed by China at US$95.90 million and India at US$40.40 million with the contribution of the three reaching 33.55 percent.
  • According to the group of main export destination countries in April 2024, exports to the Asian region (outside ASEAN) were the largest with a value of US$216.25 million (31.02%).
  • The value of imports through Sumatera Utara in April 2024 on a CIF (cost, insurance & freight) basis was US$432.85 million or decreased by 5.05 percent compared to March 2024 which was worth US$455.86 million. When compared with the same month in the previous year, the value of imports increased by 10.42 percent.
  • The value of imports by goods use class in April 2024 compared to March 2024, capital goods increased by 19.00 percent, while consumer goods and supporting raw materials fell by 35.72 percent and 0.50 percent respectively.
  • In April 2024, the category of goods that experienced the largest increase in import value was fertilizer with a value of US$14.91 million (118.01%), while the category of goods that experienced the largest decrease in import value was wheat at US$22.20 million ( -30.86%).
  • The April 2024 import value from China was the largest, namely US$88.52 million, with its role reaching 20.45 percent of North Sumatra's total imports, followed by Singapore at US$67.96 million (15.70%) and the United States at US$33.27 million ( 7.69%).
