Abstract

In November 2022 there was a combined year on year (yoy) inflation for five cities in Sumatera Utara (Sibolga, Pematangsiantar, Medan, Padangsidimpuan and Gunungsitoli) of 5.03 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 111.10. Of the five CPI cities in Sumatera Utara, the highest yoy inflation occurred in Padangsidimpuan at 6.10 percent with a CPI of 114.91 and the lowest occurred in Gunungsitoli at 4.52 percent with a CPI of 112.63.

Inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by an increase in the entire price index for the expenditure group, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 3.93 percent; the clothing and footwear group by 4.98 percent; the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group of 1.57; equipment, equipment, and household routine maintenance group of 6.00 percent; the health group by 1.89 percent; transportation group by 18.45 percent; the information, communication and financial services group by 0.11 percent; recreation, sport and culture group by 7.18 percent; the education group by 0.56 percent; the group providing food and drink/restaurants by 4.46 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 7.81 percent.

The main commodities contributing to yoy inflation in November 2022 include gasoline, air freight, filter clove cigarettes, rice, inner-city transportation, household fuel, and dencis fish.

The November 2022 month-to-month (mtm) inflation rate was recorded as deflation of 0.13 percent and the November 2022 year-to-date (ytd) inflation rate was 4.55 percent.
